When we left  L’Anse-au-Clair we were off to Aqua Labadie Scallop Aquaculture Farm in Blanc Sablon, Quebec. On the drive to the scallop farm the sun came out. This was the 6th day of our trip and the sun was out the day we arrived and this was the first time since. It was the first time we had nice sunny skies and it was a beautiful drive. At the scallop farm they showed us how they raise them, and they had some in tanks so we could pick them up. If you hold them out of the water they will open their shells then slam it shut. Their eyes are the little black dots you see in the shell that is open.  It was really very interesting. Our hosts were very nice, and then they showed us how they open and clean out the scallop.

In the U.S., we typically only eat the muscle and, in fact, most people probably don’t realize there is a lot more that other countries around the world eat. If we wanted, we could sample the muscle raw, which I did, then they had some cooked. The cooked ones were the complete scallop. They were wonderful raw and cooked. The grounds of the scallop farm were very beautiful, which the pictures show. The cooked ones are in the picture that shows them in a shell with a red ligonberry sauce and a yellow sauce.
