Oro Grande Cemetery is the oldest in San Bernardino County according to Joe Manners. Joe is the official caretaker of the cemetery and the unofficial mayor of Oro Grande. If you want to see the cemetery you need to make arrangements with Joe because it is locked. “There’s 130 graves that are marked,” Joe said. “There were only 115, but about two years ago a friend of mine who’s a coroner in San Bernardino County came up with a couple guys and ground-penetrating radar, and they found 15 additional graves ... So with my donations I got wood and paint, and had a guy make me 15 new crosses.” |

Joe will even do haunted tours of the cemetery and has hosted numerous ghost hunters and people looking for the paranormal activity which many have found here. It is located near the Cross Eyes Cow which servers excellent food and pizza. There are also a number of antique shops nearby. Joe does an excellent tour of the grounds and does a very good job maintaining it. He has lived here all his life and has a lot of good stories to tell about the area. |
