When my Aunt was alive we used to go past the road to this lake at least
once a year but it was 38 miles long so we never went. We always wanted to get
to Prescott or back home and we didn't have a camper anyway. Well now that we
have a camper we watched a few videos on the lake and decided we wanted to go.
The lake was created when the Army Corp of Engineers built the Alamo Dam on
the Bill Williams river for flood control.

The Corp of Engineers also built the campground in 1968. It made for a
wonderful place to spend a couple nights and it had really dark skies for
star gazing. Alamo Lake State Park is one of the best places to fish for
bass in Arizona. The crystal clear lake is surrounded by mountainous terrain
speckled with brush, wildflowers and cacti making for a visually pleasing
experience. We loved sitting at the campsite soaking in the view.
