The Official Center of the World

 

 

click photo to enlarge		 Felicity California has been designated the Official Center of the world by law first in the US in 1985 then International Law in 1990. This was accomplished by Jacques-André Istel. It is a very interesting story how he went about accomplishing that. First it had to be written someplace so he self published a children's book about Coe, The Good Dragon at the Center of the World in Felicity. The official plaque marking the Center of the World is located in the triangular building.

click photo to enlarge		 Also at the Center of the World is the Museum of History in Granite. Currently there are over 700 engraved granite panels telling and depicting the History of the World. The panels were designed to last 4,000 years. Istel is the founder of Felicity and the town’s longtime mayor, having been elected, almost 35 years ago, to an apparent lifetime term. The vote was unanimous: Istel voted for himself and so did Felicity’s other resident, Istel’s wife, Felicia.
