Cleveland Metro Parks

The Cleveland Area Metro Parks is an extensive system of parks and preserves that encircles the city. They continue to grow and if I pointed out to anyone that the person running the parks was one of the highest paid employees in the state, they were all fine with that. If I mentioned that there are a lot of parklands they have let go back to nature.. well they were OK with that. The picture of Karen and me is where our wedding reception was held. It was the old Astorhurst Country club that no longer exists. The park service bought the golf course, leveled all the buildings and is just letting it grow wild. Sigh, just an old memory for us now. I love the Metro Parks too, but I don't agree with all of their decisions.

The picture at the top is Squires Castle. Across the road from Squires Castle used t be two baseball fields that I played at as a young child and a young adult. They are now gone, completely grown over. The train is Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad that is 26 miles in length and goes from Independence to the North side Akron station. You can rent a bike and ride the canal towpath then take the train back for only $5. There are lots of changes for sure where I grew up and the Park Systems is one of them.
