We have been going to Laughlin fairly often since moving to California in 2001. We always went past the Big Bend of the Colorado State Recreation Area on the way there and in fact drove though it once. I always thought it was a beautiful campground but we just didn't go camping. Well now that we have a motor home I had to try it. State, County, City and Federal campgrounds are my favorite places to stay. The sites tend to be very large and very nice. They typically do not have the swimming pools and playgrounds and other amenities we don't use, the ones kids want. This campground did not disappoint. There are only 21 camp sites here and they were huge.

There are stunning desert views and great facilities along the river. I only wish they had campsites along the river but they don't. At sunset you would hear the coyotes howling and during the day there were always Roadrunners around. There were beautiful sunsets every night. We will go back again.
