Biosphere 2 is a large-scale Earth system science research facility located in Oracle Arizona. Originally designed as a closed ecological system to explore the possibility of creating self-sustaining human habitats, it housed various biomes, including a rainforest, ocean, desert, and agricultural area. While the initial closed-system experiments faced challenges, Biosphere 2 has since evolved into a unique platform for scientific research, particularly focusing on understanding the impacts of climate change and other environmental factors on complex ecosystems. |

We have been to the Biosphere 2 three times now as we find it fascinating. The first two times were before the pandemic and they used to give you a tour led by a guide. Since the pandemic it is a self guided tour. You learned a lot more from a guided tour then you do reading a few placards along the route. They also used to include a lot more then you get to see today. Even so I still find it an interesting place to visit. |
