Manzanar War Relocation Center, located in California’s Owens Valley, is a powerful and sobering reminder of a difficult chapter in American history. During World War II, more than 10,000 Japanese Americans—many of them U.S. citizens—were forcibly removed from their homes and incarcerated at Manzanar solely because of their ancestry. Today, the site stands as a National Historic Site, offering exhibits, restored buildings, and a memorial to honor those who endured injustice and hardship. A visit to Manzanar provides a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the fragility of civil liberties and the importance of standing against prejudice in all forms.
