The Remains of the Saguaro
The core of the Saguaro is woody. It
has pleats on the outside green surface so
it can expand and contract. The area between
the skin and the wood core is like a sponge.
When it rains it absorbs water and the
cactus swells. The pleats allow them to do
this.
